The World as You'll Know It

A Podcast About the Forces Shaping Our Future

We are living through years of enormous change, when the time between cause and effect is ever shrinking. We can’t predict the future, but we can get a better handle on what’s happening right now, and how these disruptions may shape the years to come.

This season The World as You’ll Know It explores the potential and pitfalls of artificial intelligence in an eight-part series, Humans vs. Machines. Hosted by Gary Marcus, a cognitive scientist and AI entrepreneur, the series provides a framework for understanding and thinking about AI individually and as a society through narratives, interviews and first-person accounts.

Previous seasons of the podcast explored the long-term social and economic effects of Covid-19, the future of technology and the latest advancements in brain science.

The World as You’ll Know It is brought to you by Aventine, a non-profit research institute creating and sharing work that explores how today’s decisions could affect the future. The views expressed are those of the participants and do not represent those of Aventine, its employees or affiliates.

Season Four: Humans vs. Machines with Gary Marcus

For all the progress in artificial intelligence over the last 70 years — computers can now beat people at chess and Go, detect fraud, give driving instructions, and write like Shakespeare — we still don’t know how to build AI we can trust. The risks are serious, but the potential benefits of AI are too great to be ignored. Gary Marcus, a cognitive scientist, author, and AI entrepreneur, digs into AI’s history, present and future.
